The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) has been set up for providing a system of education to create technical manpower at various levels for the development of the North Eastern Region of the Country.
Academic Structure The Academic programmes in Engineering and Technology) stream at NERIST consist of three independent modules (Certificate, Diploma and Degree) each of two years’ duration. Each module has an entry point through an entrance examination conducted by NERIST. Each module also provides terminality corresponding to an occupational level, and at the same time allows entry to the next higher module, leading finally to a degree in engineering/technology in six years’ time after class X. In Applied Science stream, a two-year Base module and four-years Degree module are offered. The system also allows lateral entry from outside with necessary pre-requisites, at the base of each module. From the session 1996-97, two M Tech programmes in Environmental Science & Engineering and Information Technology have also been added to the academic programme of NERIST and three more courses are likely to be added.
