A City situated in the epicenter of picturesque Karnataka, is on the Deccan Plateau. Once the proposed capital of the State of Karnataka, is now a Mecca of higher learning.

History dates back to 1000 A.D. When Baithur was the Capital of the Hoysala and Pallava Empire. The name Davangere may have been evolved from the word Devana-Kere (God's Tank). It was once the Royal stables of the Hoysala Dynasty because of abundant supply of feed and water. It was also called Deva-Nagari, as it was one of the biggest townships of the empire. This eroded its popularity till the advent of the Second World War, when Davangere became the shelter for many enterprising businessmen, dealing with Pulses, Ground nut and Cotton.

Davangere is close to Tungabhadra River, from which, it gets its water supply. It is also in the command area of Bhadra Irrigation Project.

Later developed as an Industrial centre, with a number of Cotton, Oil and Rice Mills. Since 1958, it has gradually grown into an Educational centre with a number of Institutions, from primary to Post Graduate, in several disciplines. Thanks to the Bapuji Educational Association and the dynamic Hon. Secretary Sri Shamanur Shiva Shankarappa.

Davangere is connected with the rest of the country by road and rail. Bangalore-Poona High Way (N.H.4) and uniguage rails are passing through Davangere connecting almost all parts of the country. The nearest airports are situated at Bangalore and Belgaum from where flights are available to all parts of the country.

A business town has been transformed into an Education Centre, a University Town of International repute.
