The biggest steel makers of the country the SAIL, promoted a private Engineering
College, known, as Bhilai Institute is now one of the best engineering
institutions of Madhya Pradesh. In 1992, Shir M.R.R. Nair, the then Managing
Director of Bokaro Steel Plant invited Shri Samarest, Singh, President
of Chas Bokaro Vikas Samiti, a great visionary, a veteran Trade Union
Leader, Social Worker and Educationist, to establish a private Engineering
College at Bokaro Steel City on the pattern of the Bhilai institute of
Technology, Bhillai. The Chas-Bokaro Vikas Samiti, a registered Society
under the Socialites Registration Act (Registration No. 414 of 1982-83),
has a record of establishing, running and promoting a large number of
schools and colleges in this region. The Samiti is also a well-known social
organization. It is also engaged in a number of poverty alleviation programme
and charitable activities. It took up the task of opening Engineering
College under the name Bokaro institute of Technology. This is one of
the most important tasks of the Samiti, which is being completed with
the help of the various cross sections of the society and the patronage
of the SAIL-Bakaro Steel Plant. M/S. Hindustan Steel Construction Limited,
Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Bharat Refectories Limited and other local
industries are also helping this venture.
