The Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur
was established in 1921 by the Government of United Provinces with a view
to promote technical education and industrial research in the state. It
was previously a Government Department but w.e.f. 26.03.1965 it was declared
as an autonomous institution. The institute in fully financed by the Government
of Uttar Pradesh. It is established in two different Campuses- East and
West, situated at a distance of about 4 km. The Institute is affiliated
to CSJM University, Kanpur and is academically autonomous.
The Institute runs 12 undergraduate programmes leading to B Tech Degrees.
The institute also has postgraduate programmes in Chemical Engineering
and Chemical Technology as well as Computer Application (MCA). From current
academic session i.e. 2000-2001, the All India Council of Technical Education
has accorded approval to run a new postgraduate programme in COMPUTER
AIDED DESIGN. Besides, it has active research program's in its various
disciplines.
