About
Us:
The
Allahabad Agricultural Institute was established in 1910 as a Department
of Allahabad Christian College (presently known as Ewing Christian College).
In 1911, the Agricultural and Technical Departments of the college were
shifted across the Jamuna River from Allahabad and Allahabad Christian
College on a 264 acre of badly eroded land purchased for the purpose of
Agricultural Institute. In April 1913, the Agricultural and Technical
Departments were bifurcated from the Arts and Science Departments of the
Ewing Christian College under an independent budget. On August 24, 1916,
a separate council was constituted with the Principal of the College as
its Ex officio Chairman for the management of the Agricultural Department.
In November 1918, the Agricultural & Technical Department was delinked
from the Ewing Christian College altogether and was named as "Allahabad
School of Agricultural". On February 1, 1919, the School was re-christened
as the "Allahabad Agricultural Institute" providing a wider scope for
expansion, development and broad educational management. For the purpose
of Agricultural Research, Extension, Health and Hygiene, Animal & Dairy
Sciences, Engineering & Technology, the Institute purchased land about
650 acres in Jamunapar.
PURPOSE
& OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE:
1.
To provide education and learning in areas of agricultural and rural economic
development geared to the promotion, advancement and sharing of scientific
knowledge, for the development of Christian men and women in particular

Departments:
COLLEGE
OF AGRICULTURE:
The winds
of change across the Indian sub-continent presage a bright future for
young generation. The transformation from regulation to liberalization
from protection to integration in the field of agriculture demands new
thinking, new approaches and new technical skills to accelerate the growth
of Agriculture production. The essential concerns of the college are for
the environment which is very well supported with series of disciplines
like Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Nematology, Biological
Science, Chemistry, Extension & Communication, Agricultural Economics
& Rural Sociology and Soil & Environmental Sciences.

OF AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY:
Agricultural Engineer occupies uniquely important position in our
modern civilization. He or she has the responsibility for translating
the discoveries of teacher or scientist to science and technology in Agriculrural
Mechanisation. Agricultural structures, soil and water management within
the facilities and services.
The College adopts professional approach to its fields of study which
is subjested to resources requirements and candidates qualifications,
accommodating specific individual needs. Expertise, for these roles, is
developed through integrated course work and research study in following
department -
Department Fram Machinery and Power Engineering.
Department of soil, Water, Land Engineering and Management.
Department of Agricultural Structure and Process Engineering.
Department of Engineering.
Department of Computer Science and Technology.
Department of Basic Science and Humanities.

COLLEGE
OF FOOD & DAIRY TECHNOLOGY:
The dairy industry is heading towards 2000 A.D. with an accelerating momentum
and dairy development fits most appropriately in the country's programme
of increasing food production, rural development and equitable distribution.
The promise for India's dairy development lies in recognizing the need
of substantial increase in production of liquied milk. Presently, milk
products fetch relatively higher price than liquied milk and this has
directly boosted the output of value added products like table butter,
yoghurt, cheese, ice cream and milk powder. Further the indeginous milk
preparations also enjoy higher demand and better prices. The growth would
call for substantial expansion of existing facilities, covering procrement,
processing, transportation, marketing and distribution.
COLLEGE
OF MANAGEMENT AND COMMERCE:
Allahabad Agricultural Institute is a pioneering educational institute
of the national & international status actively involved in modernizing
and improving rural life and agricultural sector in India. The institute
organizes training programmes for officers, extension works engaged in
agriculture & rural development. The last two decades have experienced
growth of industries and influx of multinational companies which has increased
the need for skilled man power with a competitive edge and quality conciousness
for effective management. The programme has been designed to enable participants:
1. To acquire a strong understanding of the concepts, tools and
techniques in disciplines on which agribusiness, rural development and
business administration is based.
2. To be exposed to fundamental principles and frame works of different
functional areas of agribusiness, rural development and business administration.
3. To broaden their prospective in agribusiness, rural development
and business administration.
COLLEGE
OF DAIRY SCIENCE:
India's Agriculture continues to be dominated by the belief that its base
is crop production. Its importance is beyond dispute, since food grains
fulfil the first basic need by providing calories for sustenance of the
country's population. Having achieved a level of self-sufficiency in cereal
production, the base of farming needs to be broadened to enchance the
quality in the daily diet, as represented by animal protein, for which
the major source is milk and meat. Therefore, dairy has enormous potential
to improve the socio economic status of the large percentage of rural
population. Cattle perhaps, one of the best tangible asset and mainstay
for their security. This improvement in socio - economic status is further
supported by various other aspects of livestock enterprises like poultry,
piggery, goat keeping, sheep keeping etc.
The
College of Dairy Science, with its very well defined purpose, aims to
the emergence of dairying as a full-fledged agri-business for enchancing
human nutrition, generating mass employment particularly in rural areas.
Scientific farming is also helping to develop a symbiotic relationship
between the farmer and industry. The College is committed to a sound base
for teaching, research, extension and training, with its well balanced
educational programmes.

DEPARTMENT
OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY:
Animal Husbandry has its existence in India from very ancient and selection
of animals for higher productivity was a specialized subject. Such a long
association with the art of rearing of animals, the widely varying agro-ecological
conditions of the country and origin of the livestock, has resulted in
a great deal of diversity in livestock, genetic resources over the years.
However, these livestock have adoption to tropical heat and resistance
to most of the tropical diseases. With the increasing productivity of
dairy animals, poultry, sheep, goats, pigs etc., the farmer is now aware
of the need of animal genetic resources and conservation, adequate health
care, scientific feeding and management practices to protect the animals
and his profit. This growth refects the social, cultural and economic
changes in rural India. In recognition of the impact of these changes,
the department strives to engender environment awareness and prompts the
use of advanced technologies for the solution of complex problems in this
field. A broad platform of this study is offered for the students, in
order to generate subject and interdisciplinary expertise skill.
COLLEGE
OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION & SOCIAL ETHICS:
The origional visionary Dr. Sam Higginbottom the founder of the Institute
said in his own words that the application of Gospel originated the idea
of Allahabad Agricultural Institute and had there been no church/evengelical
work in the world, there would not have been the Institute. Once he was
asked to give an address to a company of students to answer the question
"is not such work as yours capable of being carried on without the religious,
Christian motive?" "Can not a person who does not believe in Jesus Christ
as the world's only Saviour do such work?" He answered that I was a poor
one of whom to ask such a question for I had never tried to do any work
apart from religion. My work take to be the expression of the fact that
I believe God. I am satisfied that religious motive must be present, that
Jesus in the only one who can supply the continuing power to carry on
through all circumstances and all the time.
COLLEGE
OF HOME ECONOMICS & WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT:
India like the rest of world, is in the midst of a women's liberalization
revolution and simultaneously experiencing an accelerating socio-economic
growth. Ambitious women's development programmes place Indian women of
the platform which accommodates them in diverse disciplines in todays
world. Home Economics is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge and home
practices. It provides scientific information for dealing with real life
situations and helps individuals to cope with day today problems. This
field reinforces the culturally relevant knowledge of Indian women in
foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, child development, family
resource management, home science extension education and allied areas.
The
College of Home Economics and Women's Development, through its integrated
program of teaching, research and extension plays a significant role in
improving the socio-economic condition of rural as well as urban families.
A systematic approach has been adopted, emphasizing the identification
of opportunities and solution of the problems that stand in the way of
their realization. Proper synthesis of planning and management in the
field of Home Economics is stressed upon keeping in view the impact on
environmental, social and economic conditions. The division provides individuals
with a supportive environment in which they develop their skills aptitude,
helping them to reach their professional goals.

COLLEGE
OF CONTINUING & NON - FORMAL EDUCATION:
India continues to live in villages. The rural poor are increasingly seen
as clusters of people rather than as individual. Most of them are engaged
in agriculture and over half of them are living below poverty line. More
over millions have no land at all and are deeply engulfed in the cycle
of poverty. It is therefore essential to create some structure to visualize
the effective linkages among various development activities planned for
poverty alleviation, information education and training which plays a
critical role in creating awareness among benefifiary population equipping
them with skills required in the process of being able to sustain their
own upgradation. This will serve as a common platform for the community
to and share their experiences and complex problems of situation through
learning experiences to acquire ever increasing knowledge in all walks
of life with a view to improving quality of their life.
