DEPARTMENT
OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE
The department is equipped with a laboratory with basic services. A
department library for use by staff members is present. There is a television
and VCR, for health education of Community and training of interns. Under
in-door residential posting of interns in ROME Programme, interns are housed
in fully finished dormitories attached to PHCs Ullal and Moodbidri.

Department of medicine
The department of medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manglore has
- 8 medical
units
- 2 cardiology
units
- 2 Neurology
units
- 1 nephrology
unit and
- 1 clinical
pharmacology unit.
In addition,
the department runs 2 diabetic clinics and a thyroid clinic and an infectious
disease clinic which caters to the needs of HIV positive patients. In addition
to undergraduate training, the department offers post-graduate training
to about 90 post-graduates doing M.D.,General Medicine. The department has
32 staff members.
Department of Orthopaedics
The Department of Orthopaedics is presently based at Dr.T.M.A.Pai Rotary
Hospital at Bejai, Mangalore. It has one unit held by the Head of the department,
supported by five staff members.
There is 24 hours emergency services including care for trauma victims.
The Out -patient department is functioning daily in the forenoon sessions.
Daily ward rounds are taken, Elective orthopaedics surgeries are carried
out thrice a week. There is a fully - equipped Physiotherapy department.
Active undergraduate and Post-graduate teaching is undertaken. There is
a departmental library maintained in the outpatient containing referral
books.
Regular lectures and bedside clinics are taken for the students. In addition
to the above set-up there are 2 orthopaedic units functioning in Govt.Wenlock
Hospital, Mangalore. An artificial limb centre is attached to these units.
Department of Paediatrics
Department of Paediatrics has a total of 6 units out of which two units
are at govt.wenlock Hospital, one neonatal unit at Lady Goschen Hospital,
one at Dr.T.M.A Pai - Rotary hospital, one at K.M.C Hospital Attavar and
one at University Medical Centre Balmatta, Mangalore with a total bed strength
of 220. Apart from patient care, the department is involved in undergraduate
and post-graduate teaching.
